Special events
Every other year, WoCoVA organises its world-wide congress. But in between two of these congresses, WoCoVA organizes Special Events, often organized in collaboration with a national society. Sometimes WoCoVA aims to reach out to a special part of the world. Special Events were organised in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2023.
WoCoVA 2023 Special Event - Toronto, Canada
In April 2023, the Special Event of WoCoVA was held in Toronto, Canada. This event was in collaboration with the Canadian Vascular Access Association (CVAA), who held their annual conference.
At the CVAA 48th Annual Conference, which was titled “Crossing Borders: A Global Perspective on Vascular Access”, new science, innovative thoughts but also practical use of VA equipment were on the agenda. On the first day of the CVAA congress, WoCoVA was presenting a selection of highly interesting presentations of the 7th WoCoVA (Athens, Greece 2022).
WoCoVA 2019 Special Event – São Paulo, Brazil
A Brazilian Vascular access group headed by Claudia Luz together with Kathy Kokotis (BD) suggested WoCoVA to have a symposium in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
This resulted in an agreement for a mutual SIAV / WoCoVA Special Event programme to be held in the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
With great enthusiasm, this was worked on and the final date for the 3rd WoCoVA Special Event was set to be on July 17th 2019 in conjunction with the 5th SIAV VA symposium. The WoCoVA SE programme presented a summary of the 2018, 5th WoCoVA in Copenhagen, Denmark. Many clinicians from both Albert Einstein and other hospitals in Brazil attended the WoCoVA/SIAV congress and a large representation of VA related companies were offering support and presenting their products.
WoCoVA 2017 Special Event – Perth, Australia
In May 2017, WoCoVA held its 2nd Special Event in collaboration with the Australian Vascular Access Society (AVAS) at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre in Australia. At the event insightful knowledge was provided on improving vascular access care.
The AVAS scientific meeting had as title “The House of Cannulas” and included the latest of VA devices and technology. At the Special Event of WoCoVA a selection of the most important presentation of the 6th WoCoVA (Lisbon, Portugal 2016) were presented. The fusion of these activities brought together a multidisciplinary cohort of doctors, nurses, and scientists active in the field of vascular access.
